GlassRoots is proud to participate in the 2020 New Jersey Performing Art Center annual Kwanzaa Festival!
This year’s virtual festival runs through December 31, featuring online programs inspired by the seven principles of Kwanzaa; unity, self-determination, collective work and responsibility, cooperative economics, purpose, creativity and faith.
Make Your Own Beaded Jewelry!
In GlassRoots' online class, available at njpac.org, teaching-artist Rain Trippodi will walk you through the steps for making your own necklace using trade beads from the African country of Ghana. The rich history of Ghanaian beads dates back to ancient times when they were first used as the King’s currency for the exchange of slaves, textiles and alcohol.
This make-your-own glass-bead jewelry kit is made possible by the generosity of NJPAC.
Kits are free to the first 50 registrants* and will be available for pick-up at NJPAC's security office at the back of the building, at 969 McCarter Highway, from 9am to 9pm.
To pick up your kit, please ring the bell to the left of the gate and say you are picking up your package of Kwanzaa glass beads arts & crafts, and the Last Name under which you registered for the kits.
*Limit of 4 kits per customer
